Ethiopia to host Africa Aviation Day 2013 on Tuesday in Addis Ababa

Ethiopia is hosting the International Air Transport Association’s Africa Aviation Day on Tuesday in Addis Ababa under the theme “Driving the Benefits of Aviation across the Continent.”
In a statement, Ethiopian Airlines said this is the first time the event is being held in Ethiopia, adding, the occasion would be attended by the Director-General and Chief Executive officer of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Tony Tyler, and close to a hundred representatives of airlines and aviation stakeholders from all over Africa.

Tewolde Gebremariam, Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines, said the Airline was “very pleased to host this very important event, in partnership with IATA, for the first time in Ethiopia.”
Part of the occasion is a workshop which would deliberate on the contribution of aviation as an essential driver of Africa’s socio-economic transformation.

Other areas of discussion include the challenges facing the African aviation industry including high taxation, aviation safety, problems of financing aviation infrastructure, and the impact of high fuel taxes on the development of air transport, trade and tourism, as well as producing workforce for the aviation industry.
Tewolde said Africa Aviation Day was a very important and timely event ahead of the IATA Annual General Meeting, to be held in Cape Town in June 2013.
